Visiting a College Campus

Grove has some very good suggestions. For starters, don't just take the guided tour; spend some time roaming the campus on your own, without a guide. You'll see things that otherwise you'd probably miss. He also points out the obvious: visit a class in the subject area you plan to major in and schedule a conferences with a professor. You'll get a much better feel for the academic life of the campus.

Grove gives details on a number of other things to look for on a campus visit. You can take a look at his piece here.
